David Adedeji is a Nigerian-American singer, songwriter and record producer. His music combines traditional African elements with global mainstream pop. He was born November 21, 1992 in Nigeria and is better known as Davido. He is a singer-songwriter, producer and musician.
Davido won the 2012 Next Rated Award from The Headies after releasing the second single from his debut studio album ‘Omo Baba Olowo’ (2012) ‘Dami Duro’. Between 2013 and 2015, he released several hit singles and signed a record deal with Sony Music in January 2016. He then founded Davido Music Worldwide (DMW), a record label signed by superstar Dremo, Mayorkun, Peruzzi and Liya.
In July 2016, Davido signed a recording contract with Sony’s RCA Records. In October 2016, he released a five-track EP Son of Mercy, supported by the singles “Gbagbe Oshi”, “How Long” and “Coolest Kid in Africa”. In April 2017, Davido renegotiated with Sony over creative control issues and released five singles later that year, including “If” and “Fall”. “If” sparked activity on social media worldwide and “Fall” became the longest-running Nigerian pop song in Billboard history. Davido is also known as the “King of Modern Afrobeats”.
Early Life of David Adedeji (Davido)
David Adedeji Adeleke is born in Atlanta, Georgia, on November 21, 1992. His mother Vero Adeleke was a university lecturer, while his father Adedeji Adeleke is a business tycoon. Davido is indeed the youngest child born to his father as well as the youngest of five children. At the age of 16, he returned to the United States to pursue a degree in business administration at Oakwood University in Alabama. He had previously attended the British International School in Lagos, Nigeria.
While attending Oakwood, Davido acquired musical instruments and began producing beats. He cofounded the musical group KB International with his cousins B-Red and Sina Rambo. Davido relocated to London to improve on his vocals following quitting Oakwood University to devote himself to music full-time.
In order to respect his father, Davido decided to suspend his music career after moving back to Nigeria in 2011 and enroll in Babcock University. He received a music degree from Babcock in July 2015 after his father sponsored the school to establish a music department for a single-student first class.
On July 17, Spotify revealed that Davido’s songs had received more than 1 billion streams, joining other Nigerian artists including Wizkid, Burna Boy, and Ckay.

Nigerian Entertainment Today stated on April 6, 2012, that Davido had agreed to a $30 million endorsement agreement with MTN. The agreement made him the face of MTN Pulse, a marketing initiative geared toward young Nigerians. On October 24, 2013, Pulse Nigeria revealed that Davido has inked an endorsement contract with Guinness Nigeria.
He also shared the stage with P-Square, D’banj, Wizkid, Ice Prince, Burna Boy, Olamide, Phyno, Chidinma, Waje, and Tiwa Savage at the Guinness World of More Concert as part of the agreement.
Infinix Mobile, a Hong Kong-based smartphone company, and Davido reportedly struck an endorsement agreement on May 9, 2018, according to Guardian Life. His attorney Bobo Ajudua revealed in May 2021 that Davido had been appointed an official brand ambassador by the well-known sports betting company 1xBet. Davido was introduced as Martell’s (cognac) new ambassador on June 11.
Davido continues to support and collaborate with up-and-coming artists like Jels Quiah. Davido joined Ice Prince, Walshy Fire, and Jels Quiah on the song UNCTION in August 2020. The song quickly achieved success.
